The Archbishop of Freetown and Bo, His Grace, Edward Tamba Charles has promised to do everything possible to encourage Catholic missionaries.  This is in direct contrast to the policy of his predecessor, Archbishop emeritus Joseph Ganda who had all but dismissed the missionary Church through his “self-reliance” policy.

It is becoming increasingly clear that the APC is at war with itself.  It is an extension of the bitter leadership struggle that saw a partial truce before the elections of 2007, which the party won under the leadership of President Ernest Bai Koroma.  It is a war between the progressives within the party and the reactionaries; the new way versus the old way of doing things.

Arguments conclude in RUF trial after four years.

The Judges in the trial of three former leaders of Sierra Leone’s Revolutionary United Front (RUF) have finally heard the closing arguments on Monday and Tuesday, 4th and 5th August after four years. In their submissions, lawyers for the Prosecution and for the Accused – Issa Sesay, Morris Kallon and Augustine Gbao – made presentations to the Court and answered questions relating to evidence presented in the trial, and to the application of law.

President Ernest Bai Koroma has sacked transport and aviation minister Kemoh Sesay.  The sacking was necessitated by the need to allow unfettered investigation in the $60million cocaine plane landing case.

Scotland Yard not involved in cocaine investigations

Scotland Yard says it is not involved in the ongoing cocaine investigations in Sierra Leone.  This means that those of us, including President Koroma, who were expecting and had hoped for a thorough and conclusive investigation into the matter, should brace ourselves for a possible whitewash and a less than satisfactory outcome.
